Udyam Registration is the Government of India registration for qualifying micro, small and medium enterprises. Registration is free, online, paperless and based on self-declaration. Do not pay an unauthorised private portal for the government registration itself.

Before you start
1. Confirm the enterprise name, constitution and principal activity.
2. Keep Aadhaar and mobile access ready for the appropriate person: proprietor, managing partner, karta or authorised signatory, depending on constitution.
3. Keep the enterprise PAN ready. Keep GSTIN where it is applicable under GST law.
4. List every plant or office location and the principal and additional activities.
5. Check bank-account details and ensure names match the business records.

Registration steps
1. Open only the official Udyam Registration portal.
2. Choose New Registration and complete Aadhaar verification using OTP.
3. Complete PAN verification and allow the portal to retrieve linked information.
4. Enter the enterprise, address, bank, employment, activity and plant or unit details carefully.
5. Select the appropriate NIC activities; include all material activities rather than choosing a description only because it sounds similar.
6. Review the declaration and submit using OTP.
7. Save the Udyam Registration Number and download the certificate after it is issued.

After registration
Keep PAN, GST and income-tax records consistent because investment and turnover information is obtained from government databases. Update permitted details when the business changes. Udyam registration does not replace licences, GST registration, Shops and Establishments registration, pollution consent or sector approvals that may independently apply.
